Moving to Blogger!

Yeaah, that’s right. I haven’t been here for two weeks and I’m already leaving. Why? Well. I just can’t deal with WordPress. I just can’t. The post formating is H O R R O R and aargh, I just don’t like it. With Blogger, I have experience. I’m familiar with everything there and it just feels much more comfortable.
That’s why I’ve spent the past 2 days moving this blog to Blogger and editing everything so that it looked nice, so maybe you want to head over there to follow me? I won’t be posting here anymore:

Of course you can still follow me via EMail or Bloglovin’, but also through GFC :) Thanks a bunch ♥

Top Ten things that make my life as a reader easier – Top Ten Tuesday #1

05e8b-toptentuesday

‘Top Ten Tuesday’  is a feature created by The Broke and Bookish.
Each week, a topic is given and you have to find your top ten books matching this topic.

9 Things that make my life as a reader easier

1) Goodreads
Do I really need to say more?  I don’t think so. Goodreads is just beyond perfect.

2) Twitter
Twitter is just such a great, great way to keep up with stuff… I love it!

3) Amazon
As some of you may know, I live in Germany and it’s quite hard to get your hands on English books here, so Amazon is an absolute lifesaver!

4)  Youtube
Booktube videos are my favourite, favourite mean of procrastination! I just love watching them and got SO many great recommendations from booktubers!

5) ReadTracker
It’s an app for Android phones (there’s a pretty popular one for iPhones as well…) which allows you to record the time in which your reading. You type in the amount of pages your current read has and this app then calculates your average reading speed and how long it’ll take you to finish the book. I love it!

6) My Kindle
Ahhh, how much I live reading on my Kindle! I haven’t had it for a really long time but I LOVE it. Reading is just sooo much easier.

7) Post-its
Hrr. I just absolutely love marking my favourtie passages in books with colourful little post it notes. That way, I can easily get back to great scenes and quotes and also it looks quite cool!

8) You
Yes, you. The entire online book community has made my life as a reader so so so much easier. All the recommendations and reviews.. aaah, I love you guys so much ♥

9) The English language
You may be like ‘what the hell’ right now, but yeah. I’m still German but I hate the German language. I’m a worshipper of the English and therefore only only only ever read English books (except they’re by German authors). Being able to to this made my life MUCH better.

2) Bookish Bucket List

What is one bookish thing you want to do before you die? OR what is one thing you want to do before you die that was inspired by a book you read?

One bookish thing I’d like to do is to have a library. I have always dreamed about having an entrie room just dedicated to books in my house… Ahhh, that would be just too awesome ;__;

Super Six Sunday #1

SuperSixSundayII

Super Six Sunday is an original bookish meme created from Bewitched Bookworms and inspired by “Top Ten Tuesday” from The Broke and The Bookish .

The theme today:

Super 6 Bad Bookish Boyfriends

Ahh yes, bad boys… Don’t we all love them? Well, I do! I actually realised I haven’t read that many books with ‘bad guys’ in them recently, but og well, I’ll try.

1) Draco Malfoy
Seriously guys, seriously? HOW CAN YOU NOT? Draco… Ahh, my baby. And also Tom Felton. Yes please.

2) Severus Snape
Okaaay guys, this is where the messed up part starts. Get used to the fact that I’m attrcated to older men okay? And I don’t know about you but DAMN, I would have liked Snapeas my boyfriend. Maybe a teenage version of Snape. BUT STILL.

3) Jace Wayland
Guys I’m so so sorry, but Alex Pettyfer just still is Jace for me. He would have been PERFECT, just, aaah. Alex Pettyfer is just 100% spot-on how I imagine Jace.

4) Tyrion Lannister
Hehe. I’m not even going to comment on that. But COME ON, Tyrion is… awesome!

5) James Moriarty
More the BBC Moriarty than the original Moriarty but yeah. He’s pretty much of a ‘bad boy’ isn’t he?

6) Dean Winchester
*sighs* Jess pointed it out in her post and yes, he’s not a bookish character but DAMN. Apart from Crowley, he’s my absolute favourite on the show and I’m not lying when I say that Jensen Ackles is the single most attractive man that has evern existed on this planet. He is perfect. Please marry me.

Alright then, here you have my twisted up thoughts on attractiveness IT’S NOT MY FAULT I LIKE OLDER MEN.

Summary

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder — much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing — not even a smear of blood — to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .

My thoughts:

I re-read this book this year, since it has been almost 2 years since I read it the first time.
In general

Overall, this is a really good book and I am definitely going to continue this series.

I thought the beginning was a little bit slow-paced and boring, just average and nothing too special. I didn’t like Cassandra Clare’s writing style in the beginning either, but got more and more used to it as the story proceeded.

Plot

Despite the slow start, at some point in the book, the story just draws you in and you can’t stop reading. One of the things I really liked about this book was Clare’s talent to throw in some brilliant plot-twists I even found surprising while re-reading because I didn’t remember all of them.
Especially towards the end the plot gets very capturing and packed with anticipation and action.

Characters

Yeah, what to say about the characters… Despite the fact that Jace is pretty much the epitome of what I like about a boy – feature-wise that is, nobody can deny that this boy is completely wrecked on the inside – I came to like most characters.
Yes, Jace’s heart and soukd and whatnot might be torn apart by his past – you still have to like him. And Alec, aah, gotta love Alec.
Especially regarding the different characters of the story, Cassandra Clare’s talent for sudden plot twist becomes apparent. Everything you though you knew about a character can easily be proven false in the course of one sentence – brilliant.

Book To Movie?

About the upcoming City of Bones movie… Let’s say I am, well, curious. I don’t really like the cast all that much but I am super excited for how they will translate the world displayed in the book into a movie. It has good potential – the question is whether or not that’ll be used.

Rating

I give this book 4, maybe 4 1/2 out of 5 stars, simply because it was a very nice and exciting story but nothing absolutely special. Also, the beginning was quite slow.

Bout of Books 8.0 – Goals

BoB8.0-200x200

As stated in an earlier post, I will be taking part in the Bout of Books 8.0 Read-a-Thon (click the image for more information).
This is a week-long read-a-thon with daily challenges and giveaways but without any specific challenges about what to read, so the goal is basically just reading as much as possible.
The week will be my first week of school, so I will be busy, but not too much and so I thought I’d just give the whole thing a try (: I’m not going to go overboard with my goals though, I know I don’t work well under pressure…
So, without further ado, here are my goals:

1. Divergent – Veronica Roth

YES, I know I know, WHAT, I haven’t read this book yet?  No, I have not… But I am going to – next week! I won’t be starting with this book though, butit’s certainly the one I’m most looking forward to.

 2. Sentinel – Joshua Winning

I got this book as a Review Copy from a group on Goodreads I’m in. I have 3 weeks to finish my review for this so I’ll tackle it next week. It’s set in Cambridge, so that sounds amaaazing!

3. Will Grayson, Will Grayson – John Green / David Levithan

Well, this is the last John Green book I haven’t read (apart from Let it Snow, that is) and when I pulled it from my TBR Jar I thought why the hell not read this for the read-a-thon. I am exciteed!

4. Shugo Chara #2 – Peach Pit

Yup, I’m also including a manga. Because I can. Started re-reading this series this month and will continue :)

That’s it for my Bout of Books 8.0 goals, I don’t know whether I’ll actually get around to reading Will Grayson, Will Grayson, but we’ll see.

My thoughts

In general, I have to say that I did enjoy this book. I have read some reviews claiming that this book wasn’t good at all or complaining about a lot of things I didn’t think were that annoying.

I would have given the book 4 stars if there hadn’t been a few things that put me off a little.

So, to begin with, I think the original idea behind this book is a very good one. I am a sucker for contemporary fiction and Teenage Pregnancy isn’t a topic that’s all too famous in the book-world.
The plot is also good, although a little bit exaggerated maybe, as I couldn’t really imagine parents throwing treating their kids that way or a whole school making fun of a pregnant person (I’ve had pregnant girls at my school and almost everyone was always very supportive, understanding and friendly about it), but maybe that’s just because I am lucky enough not to have to deal with such problems. After all, hey, it’s a story, it needs a little dramatising and who knows, there surely are people as cruel as that somewhere out there. My prayers go out to those who have to deal with them.
It wasn’t like the plot was outstandingly exciting or full of action but that’s not what I expect when reading Contemporary, so that didn’t bother me at all.

The characters were… well. Some of them I quite liked, Grace towards the end for example, not really at the beginning, she was just a little bit too annoying for my taste, as she just kept going on about how miserable she was for losing all her senses just because Nick stuck his hands down her panties (Seriously, I don’t want to know, how often I’ve read this sentence in the book). Still, I think this might have been the authors intention, as you can witness a very clear character development as the story proceeds.
The other characters seemed to be a little bit stereotypical most of the time, like Nick, the perfect boy who just so happens to be arrogant and throws girls away like used condoms, or even Aunt Helen, who I liked, but come on, the also very perfect mother figure who sticks her nose into other people’s business but is still loved by anyone? Who, of course, presents a harsh contrast to the cruel, cruel parents who, in the end, turn out not to be ALL that cruel.
Jennifer was cool, but a little bit annoying as well. Why does she always have to know it better??

There was one thing, one thing that really, really drove me crazy. Switching the narrator is perfectly fine and would make sense for this story – but please please please do it through different chapters or something, don’t mess around with the perspective midsentence. I found it quite hard to follow and had to read several passages over and over before I understood who’s thoughts I was reading at that moment.

Overall, I would recommend giving this book a try if you like Contemporary. It was a really fun read and I found myself quite attatched to the characters at the end. The book certainly has its flaws and the great potential could have been worked with a little bit harder, but in the end, nobody’s perfect – as is very nicely shown in this book.
